This eighteenthcentury version of medievalism was an attitude towards the past defined by a desire to revive certain elements of medieval life. In fantasy, magic is deliberate - usually requiring some sort of ritual or at least a conscious act of will. I know what you’re thinking: stories do not fit so neatly into genres. Jäntti's striking treatment of bodies and body parts also draws attention to the boundaries between characters and their environments. In Fantasy, politics can be a huge component to world building, but in Political Fantasy the structure of society, the politics that build it, and the powers that shape it are the focus of the story. Do I have some exciting suggestions for you. Frederico’s self-mutilation is handled in such a way that makes the violent act seem absurd and, coincidently, heartbreaking. Unlike the character in my parable, the main character in Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis," worries about the most unlikely things. Magnus Flyte has certainly created a series that busts out of conformity which I find quite refreshing. Even when it’s not a good excuse, even when what they choose is abhorrent and wrong.

While I wasn’t very familiar with Marquez’ work before reading “One Hundred Years of Solitude” for this class, I have read works by both Gaiman and Murakami, including “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” (shelved 197 times under magical realism), “ American Gods ” (144 times), “ Anansi Boys ” (72 times) and “ Neverwhere ” (96 times) by Neil Gaiman, as well as Haruki Murakami’s “ Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World ” (179 times).
